EAI was founded in 1984 as a consulting group specializing in results-driven continuous improvement, Six Sigma training and implementation, organization development, and managing change. EAI clients include GE Capital, Pfizer, Westin Hotels, Honeywell, and Volvo. In 1996, EAI was chosen as a primary consulting organization for General Electric in their Six Sigma Quality initiative.

Since its inception, EAI has successfully differentiated itself from other six sigma consulting organizations through its emphasis on the importance of the psychological factors present in any change process. These factors can inhibit or enhance the success of improvement efforts, and must be carefully and intelligently managed to achieve the full benefits of Six Sigma.

In recent years EAI has added to its offerings, providing a series of books, tapes, and course materials, as well as an expanded list of courses.
